Agus plaic ghorm á nochtadh ag Ciorcal Staire Uladh le hurraim do Mhuiris Ó Droighneáin ag a sheantach ar Bhóthar an Ghleanna, labhraíonn muid le cuid dá theaghlach, chairde agus chomhghleacaithe faoi shaol agus faoi shaothar an scoláire agus an mhúinteora Ghaeilge. B’as Corcaigh ó dhúchas dó ach bhog sé go Béal Feirste sna 1940í agus “thóg Muiris a chlann le Gaeilge nuair nár ghnách a leithéid a dhéanamh ar chor ar bith i gcathair Bhéal Feirste.”

As a blue plaque is unveiled by the Ulster History Circle in honour of Muiris Ó Droighneáin at his former residence on the Glen Road, we talk to some of his family, friends and colleagues about the life and work of the Irish language teacher and scholar. Muris was originally from Cork but he moved to Belfast in the 1940s and he “raised his family with Irish at a time when that wasn’t at all common in Belfast”.
